The counselors are IHS and State trained, certification is gained through the Oklahoma Drug and Alcohol Professional Counselor Certification Board.

Treatment Goals & Objectives:

The goal of the Social Development Center Program is to enhance the quality of life for Indian families who are suffering with Alcohol/Drug abuse problems. The Ponca Tribe has established on Tribal Property a HUD funded facility, which is maintained as an Alcohol/Drug Recovery Program to provide residential treatment to Indian Males and Females in need of Alcohol/Drug Treatment.
The program objective and treatment approach are as follows:
To offer alcohol and drug abuse treatment services to Indian Males and Females with alcohol and / or drug problems.
To assist these individuals in evaluating their personal attitudes, values, beliefs and behaviors concerning everyday problems surrounding alcohol and drugs.
To provide assistance in directing these individuals to appropriate therapeutic services.
To involve family Counseling to ensure clients continued rehabilitation. To assist these clients in developing social problem-solving coping skills that will aid in coping with life's stresses without the use of mood altering chemicals.

Philosophy of Treatment: The Social Development Center believes and operates with the philosophy that alcohol / substance abuse is a disease which can be treated, not a moral issue. With this belief and conviction the following is our goal: To provide a comprehensive and professional program designed to show positive outcomes in preventing, reducing and treating Native
American Males and Females eighteen and older, who suffer from chemical dependency.
Clients accepted into the program must have a thorough medical examination to determine their health status and possible physical damage due to substance abuse. A psychological evaluation is made to determine the client's "total" health (body, mind and spirit) needs. The Social Development Center's professional treatment team develop and monitor the plan over the forty-five (45) day treatment program. (Physician at White Eagle Indian Health Clinic, Substance Abuse Counselor, Social Worker, etc.)
Group sessions, individual therapy and educational programs are designed to show clients how chemicals affect their minds and bodies and learn to live comfortably without alcohol and/or drugs. They learn the skills to cope successfully with marriage problems, stress, crisis, their feelings and living problems that might have resulted in chemical use or dependency in the past. They also learn about and take the Alcoholic Anonymous and the Narcotics Anonymous 12-Steps to Recovery.
